Austin Martin, a new scoreboard, and Johan [Twins Hyperlinks]
Hi friends,
I’ve heard mostly good feedback on these links columns except for two things that I’ll quickly address at the top here.
One reader shared that it’s a drawback that some of the linked articles require a paid subscription to read. To that I’ll say that if you do find value in the work, I’d suggest supporting it where you can. And with that in mind, I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the best discounts for my readers, and pass them along when they’re available. I absolutely understand that money isn’t unlimited.
Secondly, I’ve learned that sending out quick emails with a bunch of links is a one-way ticket to the inbox “promotions” tab or, worse, spam folders. If you enjoy getting these Twins columns — whether you like the free ones or you’re a Subscribing Member — you can do me a favor to help my emails show up more often. If you’re reading this in the “promotions” tab on your Gmail account, go back to the inbox view, and then click and drag the email from the Promotions tab to the Primary tab.
And please note that you can always reply to my emails and I’ll try to address any concerns. Happy to field any compliments, too. (Thanks to reader Kevin for your kind note last week!)
Now, today’s Twins Hyperlinks.
Target Field is getting a giant new scoreboard, and Rochelle Olson has the story for the Star Tribune
Do-Hyoung Park – Jeopardy Contestant and Twins writer – talked with Johan Santana and Terry Ryan about the Best Rule 5 Draft pick in Twins history.
Charley Walters has a notes column stuffed to the gills with nuggets on Tony O, Jim Kaat, bobbleheads, and the Winter Classic at Target Field.
After our discussion for the column last week about why I don’t use OPS+ as a stat very often, I came across this article from Sam Leweck: Is OPS a worthy stat?
Dan Hayes has a mailbag in which he answers some questions and reveals that Santa has a subscription to The Athletic.
And Gerard Gilberto posted a prospect season in review on Austin Martin, for Milb.com.
Thank you again to readers Terry C, Robert N, D.G., and Buff, who signed on this week to become Members.
